Is Israel Lobby behind Duckworth's Iran deal silence?
I'm still perplexed and disappointed by Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth's silence on the 5 + 1 Iran nuclear deal. It's going to happen since 34 courageous, decent and peace loving Senators have made it sabotage proof. That effort to sabotage is largely coming from the Israel Lobby, spending millions on scare tactic ads and the manipulation of a claque of Senators, notably Tom Cotton, Mark Kirk, Bob Menendez and Chuck Schume...r who think nothing of putting the foreign policy interests of Israel over those of the US.
Last month Illinois Senate candidate Andrea Zopp added moral support to the cause of Middle East peace by publically supporting the deal. Noticing Duckworth's silence, she wrote to her requesting Duckworth join her in support. Duckworth didn't respond. Tuesday, Zopp issued a public letter chiding Duckworth for her silence:
"You have avoided the question in the media and, while many of your Democratic allies have made firm declarations in support of the plan, you have been virtually silent. The world needs to know that Democrats stand with President Obama in working to secure a safer and more peaceful Middle East and world. To date, you have dodged the question and I urge you to demonstrate your leadership now and join me and many other Democrats in supporting the deal."
Tammy Duckworth is well on the way to losing my vote March 15 over her refusal to address what may be the single most important issue facing America today. The only logical explanation to me is her fear of and/or fealty to the Israel Lobby which puts enormous pressure on legislators and candidates to tow the Likud Party line, even if it threatens peace. I've called the Congresswomen's office to request she support this deal regardless of the real or imagined political consequences. Now it's your turn: 202-225-3711.
