Rep. Miller should resign, but not for Hitler comment
I’m a lifelong free
speech libertarian who posts provocative comments on our political culture every
day. So I give my fellow commentators a wide berth of free speech freedom,
unless they cross the line into obscenity or incitement to bad behavior,
especially violence.
That’s why I oppose the
flood of calls from political leaders and organizations for newly minted House
Representative Mary Miller (IL-15) to resign for this quote at a ‘Moms’ For
America’ rally in DC Tuesday, supporting Trump’s effort to overturn the
election:
“If we win a few
elections, we’re still going to be losing unless we win the hearts and minds of
our children. This is the battle. Hitler was right on one thing. He said,
‘Whoever has the youth has the future.”
It’s clearly an
inartful Hitler analogy, one that can be easily misconstrued as praising
Hitler. It’s just as likely Miller used the ‘H’ word simply to scare her crowd
of ‘Moms For America’ about the threat of Democrats propagandizing their
precious youth to keep patriotic Republicans from power. On its face the
statement was harmless, tho some found it offensive and unbecoming of a
congressperson.
But she should resign,
along with the other 146 House members and 6 Senators, who voted to assist
Trump’s treason in overturning the election. It took a catastrophic riot of
Trump supporters resulting in 5 deaths, many injuries and one the worst ever
domestic assaults on our government, for Trump to drop his 2 month treason
against the American electoral process.
However long Miller
serves, she will be more remembered for the T word of treason than the H word
of Hitler.
Give free speech a very
wide berth. But squeeze treason into oblivion.
