In ending Cuban blockade it’s America…and Israel against the world.

For the 29th time in 30 years, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly passed a resolution for the U.S. to end its cruel, murderous blockade of Cuba. Only pandemic, which cancelled the vote in 2020, prevented it being the 30th year out of 30.
The vote wasn’t close: 184 to 2 with 3 abstentions. Voting with the U.S. was Israel, which has no beef with Cuba. But the two countries trade NO votes against any measure the UN proposes to ease Israel’s humanitarian destruction of the Palestinians or end the U.S. blockade of Cuba. Hey, what are friends for if not to assist humanitarian catastrophes.
Cuba has done pretty damn well confronting covid considering its tiny size. It is the smallest country in the world to develop its own vaccine, not one but five; 2 of which are in the final stage of testing. Once certified Cuba is on track to produce 100 million doses by end of year, 70 million more than needed. That will allow Cuba to export much of their stock to larger countries that can’t produce their own.
If only Cuba could produce their own masks, ventilators and syringes they’d have covid licked. But America’s 60 year long embargo has greatly impeded Cuba getting those critical supplies.
The U.S. loves to brag about its being the greatest supplier of covid relief worldwide. A State Dept. memo touts its accomplishments, “The United States has always stood by our partners through pandemics and crises. In the face of the COVID-19, the American people are here to help.”
Apparently, for Uncle Sam, Cuba occupies some other planet.
