Pelosi's un-excellent Ukraine adventure

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ventured far from Washington to essentially tell Ukraine President Zelensky, 'You do the dying...we'll do the supplying.'
By supplying, she means Biden's proposed $33 billion in largely military aid to prolong the war indefinitely to the last Ukrainian. The war could have been avoided with sensible diplomacy beginning 8 years ago when instead of diplomacy, the U.S. waged war on Ukraine democracy by inspiring, supporting an anti-democratic coup. That ignited civil war in the Donbas that has claimed over 14,000 Ukrainians before the first Russian missile was fired 68 days ago.
All the weapons we’re pouring into the war zone disappear into the fog of war. We have near zero visibility whether they’re making a real difference in Ukraine’s defense or if their being blown up upon arrival; even being captured to kill more Ukrainians.
But the positives, like a covid diagnosis, are truly negatives. They are goosing U.S. weapons makers’ stocks prices and profits to record highs…as the rest of the U.S. economy struggles with the beginning effects of ruinous sanctions doing no good at all.
Mother Earth just took a sucker punch from the shift away from combating climate change, to destroying the planet, possibly with nuclear weapons. Biden has basically told Her…no money to save You.
U.S. war hawks are falling over each other ramping up the road to shooting war with Russia. Illinois congressman Adam Kinzinger introduced a joint resolution authorizing the use of force against Russia in event they use chemical, biological or nuclear weapons in Ukraine. That’s a great way to inspire a Ukrainian false flag chemical attack to draw America directly into the fighting. That almost worked in Syria in 2012 till Obama blinked. Kinzinger should stick to uncovering the January 6 treason instead of possibly fomenting WWIII.
Endless weapons and endless sanctions are ‘feel good’ responses to placate an electorate already getting bored with what appears to be a multiyear war with no direct threat to America whatsoever….unless we continue to overreact. America would be wise to tell its 27 European NATO members, which dwarf Russia in both GDP and military spending, to take care of their neighborhood problem without Yankee interference. As murderous as the war is, it proves the nearly complete ineffectiveness of the Russian military to quickly and effectively subdue a country a third its size. Europe is safe without our meddling unless we stumble into nuclear war. Then we’re all toast.
Sadly, that won’t happen. It’s much easier for the U.S. to spend our treasure on military adventurism abroad, than spend to fix domestic problems and the global climate crisis. It’s the one issue both parties can agree upon: endless spending on endless war.
What could go wrong?

The carnage could still be minimized with a negotiated settlement.

Ukraine does the dying, and the Biden/Congress does the supplying and denying. A negotiated settlement like Walt says is the coice-to-take. Escalation hurts Ukrainians and Russia.
