President Biden dipped his big toe into the peace pool at the UN Security Council Monday. He abstained from a strong Security Council resolution calling for ”immediate ceasefire during the month long Ramadan respected by all parties leading to a lasting sustainable ceasefire and release of all hostages. “

After vetoing 3 previous strong ceasefire resolutions to protect Israel’s destruction of Gaza, and 3 countries vetoing America’s weak, non ceasefire effort, Biden finally threw in the towel under relentless worldwide pressure to stop the slaughter.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not happy with the first US abandonment of Israel at the UN. He cancelled his delegation’s trip to the White House to ‘review’ his plans to invade Rafah, crammed with 1.5 million Palestinian refugees that will likely goose get the current ghastly 32,000 Palestinian death toll there.

As troubling as the UN ceasefire call should be diplomatically to Netanyahu and his crazed war cabinet, it has not and will not stop their unrelenting 6 month effort to remove all 2,300,000 Palestinians from Gaza. That waterfront property is too precious to Israel not to waste on the people they label ‘vermin.’ Netanyahu has been signaling for weeks Israel will invade Rafah with or without US support. Now that likely includes the UN as well.

Biden should forget his big toe and fling his whole self into the peace pool. He must immediately cut off all military aid to Israel. He must demand Israel end their invasion and ghoulish blockade of food, water and medicine likely killing hundreds of kids and their moms daily. He must vigorously push for immediate substantive negotiations for a free and independent Palestinian state.

Anything less will keep the moral stain of genocide clinging to Biden like super glue.
