CONG. ROSKAM PASSES ON REPUBLICAN ANTI WAR CLIQUE

March 14, 2010

Congressman Peter Roskam
150 S. Bloomingdale Road, Suite 200
Bloomingdale, IL 60108

Dear Congressman Roskam,

I got to spend my birthday, March 10, witnessing a remarkable governmental event.

The House of Representatives, of which you are a member, actually spent four hours debating House Concurrent Resolution 248, introduced by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, (Dem, OH), directing the President to withdraw all soldiers from Afghanistan by December
31, 2010.

Although the resolution was defeated 356 to 65, meaning that our senseless and deadly and bankrupting war in Afghanistan will go on indefinitely, it is reasonable to state that if this war were legal and moral, the resolution would not have been offered, much less debated and the recipient of 65 votes in support of passage.

Sadly, Congressman, you were not among the five courageous Republicans, Campbell of California, Duncan of Tennessee, Johnson of Illinois, Jones of North Carolina and, of course, Ron Paul of Texas who stood up to the war party and the Republican mantra that endless, unnecessary war is good for America.

Even in defeat, it was encouraging to hear your colleagues speak to America and the world the words I’ve been beseeching you about for the three plus years you have represented me in Congress.

“There is nothing conservative about the Afghan war. The neoconservatives who promote these wars are the most radical people in our government.” – Rep. John Duncan, (Rep, CA).

We can’t police the world”. – Rep. Walter Jones, (Rep. NC).

This war is illegal. This war is an immoral war. This war is an illegitimate war. The Taliban did not launch an attack against the United States. The Afghan government did not launch an attack against the United States”. – Rep. Ron Paul, (Rep. TX).

I suspect you realize how truly immoral, illegal, bankrupting and endless the Afghan war, along with our wars in Iraq and now Pakistan really are. Although you continue to support them with 400 millions of borrowed dollars daily, you avoid them like the crimes they are on your Congressional website. For the record, here are the last four entries on the issue mis-labeled “war on terror”:

2-3-2010
Statement opposing re-locating Guantanamo Bay
detainees to vacant Illinois prison

6-3-2009
Statement ratcheting up pressure against Iran over
their nuclear program

5-13-2009 Statement opposing closing of Guantanamo Bay detention facility

9-23-2008
Article discussing dog tags returned to Vietnam
veterans after forty years by your mother

The fact that you can support our criminal military enterprises with nearly a half trillion dollars of borrowed treasure and not have a meaningful word about them on your website disgraces you and disrespects your constituents. We deserve better Congressman.

As usual I will close on a positive note. Seek guidance from your fellow Republicans Jim Campbell of California, John Duncan of Tennessee, Tim Johnson of Illinois, Walter Jones of North Carolina and Ron Paul of Texas. They can lead you away from the clutches of the war party which is squandering our treasure to get a lot of people killed for nothing.

And you will finally have something meaningful to write about on your website.

Respectfully,

Walt Zlotow
Glen Ellyn, IL
