NO GENTLEMAN'S C FOR THE PRESIDENT
President Obama was challenged this week about the continued imprisonment, under quite possibly inhumane conditions, of Pvt. Bradley Manning for allegedly aiding Wikileaks revelations.
Members of the Fresh Juice Party paid $76,000 to attend an Obama breakfast fundraiser in San Francisco. They held up signs and broke into song in support of Army Pvt. Bradley Manning, who has been held in virtual solitary confinement for nearly a year since his May, 2010 arrest. First detained in Kuwait, he was transfered to the Marine Corp Brig at Quantico, VA. Amnesty International publicly complained this January about the conditions imposed upon Bradley's confinement, calling them harsh and punitive. Two hundred and ninety-five legal scholars signed a letter in April saying that the detention conditions amounted to a violation of the U.S. Constitution. Under such mounting pressure, the Pentagon last week transferred Manning to a new facility in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he can finally interact with other pre-trial detainees.
Former Constitutional law professor Obama has no concern that Bradley's harsh treatment for nearly a year with no formal charges being filed, possibly constitutes torture in violation of the US Constitution. How sure is the President? Well, instead of finding out for himself, he is relying on his military advisors, who he states, have assured him the 23 year old is doing just fine. Hey, a year of no contact with the outside world should be a walk in the park for someone treacherous enough to dare reveal American war crimes. Besides, when challenged about Manning's indefinite, endless stay in prison, Obama said flat out "He broke the law".
If the President could somehow time travel back and take a constitutional law class from his former identity as a law professor at the University of Chicago... he would flunk.
