Best QB name ever? Willie Thrower
Willie Thrower, first black QB to play in Big Ten with Michigan State and modern NFL with Chicago Bears in 1953. On October 18th, with 5 minutes left, Trower replaced George Blanda, throwing for 3 completions in 7 attempts in leading the Bears to a TD, closing the gap to the leading 49ers from 35 -21 to 35-28. But on the TD play, Papa Bear Halas threw out Thrower for Blanda to get Bears into the endzone. Papa Bear excuse..."He didn't know the play I wanted to call." Thrower never threw again in the NFL, finishing up his career in more tolerant Canada.
