In one day Rubio talked more peace in Ukraine than predecessor Blinken did in 1,063 days

Marco Rubio said this on his first full day as Secretary of State.
“The promise the President made (to end the US proxy war against Russia in Ukraine), really if you look at it, is it’s going to be the priority – it’s going to be the official policy of the United States that the war in Ukraine needs to come to an end. We are going to engage in making it end in a way that is sustainable, meaning we don’t just want the conflict to end and then restart in two, three, or four years down the road. We want to bring stability.”
We never heard one word proposing peace in any fashion like that from Rubio’s predecessor Antony Blinken in the previous 1,063 days since the war began on February 24, 2022.
Even worse about Blinken’s tenure? He spent the previous 398 days provoking the war prior to the Russian invasion. He never once engaged his Russian counterpart, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, about either preventing the war or ending it once started.
In so doing Blinken, despite his title, never once functioned as a Secretary of State using diplomacy to both prevent war and end it.
We must remain wary of Rubio’s refreshing use of the ‘peace’ word on his first day. Maybe he will follow thru and truly seek to end this dreadful, senseless war that largely destroyed Ukraine as a viable, functioning state and put the world in fear of nuclear war. Wary because Rubio was all in for US prosecution of this war till he became a candidate to be America’s top diplomat under a president promising to end it.
But we must remain hopeful Rubio will actually serve faithfully during his term as Secretary of State, unlike Antony Blinken who served for 1,461 days as America’s de facto Secretary of War.
