Zelensky should meet with Putin…to surrender

Zelensky should meet with Putin…to surrender

The only chance Ukraine President Zelensky has to prevent the further destruction of Ukraine is to surrender on Russia’s terms.

The war is lost with no chance of reversing Ukraine’s impending battlefield defeat. Since Ukraine loses more soldiers and territory every day, surrendering now will end that destruction and allow Ukraine to begin rebuilding its shattered country. Since the US and NATO forced this war upon Ukraine, they should have the moral decency to fund the rebuilding.

Russia’s terms are fair and achievable. No NATO for Ukraine which must agree to be neutral between Russia and Western Europe. It precludes any return of the 4 eastern Ukraine oblasts in and around Donbas which are now irrevocably part of Russia. Some western portion of the Zaporizhia and Kherson oblasts may be returned to Ukrainian control as a concession.

Lost territory was set to remain under Ukraine sovereignty under the Istanbul Agreement of April 2022. But the US and UK vetoed that settlement and forced Zelensky to continue the war on the promise US/NATO aid would achieve a Ukraine victory. Colossal mistake.

The third major term is the trickiest; security arrangements for the remaining Western Ukraine rump state and Russia going forward. The European deadenders in UK (Starmer), France (Macron) and Germany (Merz) seek NATO soldiers in Ukraine to keep the peace. Trump will have none of that nonsense. Russia rightly views the European plan as Ukraine NATO membership by a different means, making it a nonstarter.

Trump wants out of a war he knows is lost and represents no national security threat to the US or the European countries. They seek to keep it going in perpetuity for reasons mysterious to any sane observer of Ukraine’s impeding collapse. Since Trump has signaled he’ll be pulling the plug on endless tens of billions for Ukraine to lose more soldiers and territory, the European leaders will eventually face reality and go along with a sensible settlement to end the fighting. Without US largesse, cash poor Europe will fold PDQ.

So will Zelensky. But the clueless US puppet, who sold out his country to US/NATO promises he could defeat the Russian behemoth, shouldn’t wait another day for the surrender orders to arrive from his bosses in Washington and Brussels. Surrendering will definitely end his presidency he extended by decree but hopefully not his life from Ukraine’s real rulers in Kyiv.

Zelensky has never acted for the betterment of his people. He was elected in 2019 garnering a majority of votes from the Russian leaning Ukrainians in Donbas. They believed his promises to treat them inclusively with West leaning Ukrainians in Western Ukraine. Then he betrayed them by caving to the neo fascists in Kyiv seeking to wipe out their culture, language, religion, livelihood.

Zelensky continued his predecessor’s acquiescence in US/NATO efforts to derail regional independence to Donbass Ukrainians under 2015 Minsk II agreements. He used those delaying tactics to beef up Ukraine forces with US/NATO weapons to further combat Donbass separatists’ aspirations. He also continued to promote Ukraine NATO membership. Two big mistakes. Both made the Russian invasion two months later inevitable.

Three years, six months on he’s still demanding back the land lost from his delusional reliance on his US, NATO masters. Ukraine’s battlefield collapse is months, possibly just weeks away.

Zelensky shouldn’t wait for Trump to finally pull the plug on their failed joint venture. He shouldn’t let Ukraine’s destruction last one more day.

Will Zelensky finally do the right thing by his beleaguered people and capitulate to the victorious Russians? Nothing in his 6 years in office, the last 2 as a self-appointed dictator, suggests that he will short of a complete US withdrawal from America’s failed proxy war against Russia.

Correct phrasing of Ukraine war should not include Chamberlain or Hitler

Correct phrasing of Ukraine war should not include Chamberlain or Hitler

I’m a member of the peace community dialoging with many opposing any settlement in that war short of victory for Ukraine. It’s tiresome to hear frequent references to Trump’s efforts to end the war as if he were the UK’s Neville Chamberlain capitulating to Putin’s Adolph Hitler at Munich.

Case in point is Gerald King’s letter ‘The correct phrasing’ in Thursday’s Chicago Tribune, pleading with the Trib to promote King’s view that Trump and Putin are the 21st century’s version of Neville Chamberlain and Adolph Hitler respectively. King closes by claiming “anyone who knows history should be able to anticipate the outcome.

King appears oblivious that his ‘anyone’ does not include a single esteemed historian or political scientist. That is because there is no historical or political connection whatsoever between Chamberlain’s 1938 meeting with Hitler at Munich during which there was no ongoing war, and the current war in which Ukraine is approaching military collapse.

King implores the Trib to address this issue. If it does, the Trib would be wise to scrub King’s ‘Chamberlain, Hitler’ reference from its discussion.

Democrats bashing Trump, Putin summit ensuring continued destruction of Ukraine

Democrats bashing Trump, Putin summit ensuring continued destruction of Ukraine

Democrats are horrified that Trump and Putin are actively seeking an end to the 3 year, 6 month US proxy war against Russia in Ukraine. They avoid entirely the imminent collapse of Ukraine's military in Ukraine’s lost cause to enter NATO and conquer the Donbas Ukrainian separatists. Neither will ever happen as the war is lost with 4 eastern Ukrainian oblasts gone forever. NATO will never include the rump state that is left of Ukraine once they capitulate.

While Democrats have good reason to lambast Trump’s deranged domestic policies, they should be wishing him success, indeed cheering him on as he tries to extricate America for possibly the worst foreign policy blunder in its 250 years.

All 6 US administrations preceding Trump 2.0, including 3 Republicans (H.W. Bush, W. Bush and Trump 1.0),  and 3 Democrats (Clinton, Obama, Biden) had endlessly provoked the Russian invasion of February 22, 2022. But it was the third Democrat, virulent Russophobe Joe Biden, who made that invasion inevitable. He greenlighted Ukraine’s massing troops on the Donbas border to finish off the Ukrainian separatists in late 2021. Then he dismissed Russia’s entreaties in December to grant the separatists independence and rule out Ukraine NATO membership.

But the August 15 summit has changed the US, Russia trajectory from endless war to seeking an off ramp to peace. Alas, Democratic congresspersons and their sycophant Democratic media had their hair on fire over the summit. ‘Trump was cozying up to a war criminal dictator.’ Trump got rolled.’ ‘Trump betrayed the brave Ukrainian people.’ ‘Trump disgraced America and himself by not including Ukraine President Zelensky ‘

Democrats adhere to the party platform that forbids any support of Trump even it could alleviate Ukrainian suffering and lead to peace. Their endless rant against the Trump summit avoided any mention Ukraine is on US/NATO life support and will likely be finished on the battlefield by summer’s end.

Democrats offer nary an idea to reverse Ukraine’s imminent defeat. Nuke Russia? Nope. Offer up American cannon fodder? Nope. All they offer is ‘Tell Putin to get the hell out of Ukraine.’

Democratic leadership remains oblivious several million of the 6 million 2020 Biden voters who abandoned Harris in 2024 did so over their failed proxy war against Russia and support of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, both getting hundreds of thousands killed for nothing.

Democrats checked all the boxes demonizing Trump for attempting to end the lost US proxy war against Russia in Ukraine. They left unchecked all the boxes that offer any hope for the 70% of Ukrainians who look to America to end forthwith this nightmare war America provoked.

Whether in the White House or out, Democrats' support of endless war is destroying their party along with the millions in Ukraine and Gaza. Their reaction to the Trump, Putin summit is Exhibit A.
