To all those who fear a Sanders presidency

Don’t view it as the first term of a socialist president.
View it as the 5th term of FDR.

US signs Afghan peace treaty on Saturday....US resumes bombing Afghans on Wednesday

Took less than a hundred hours for the US to renege on their promise not to engage in hostilities as long as the Taliban was not attacking US forces. Our rationale was that the two rival Afghan forces were fighting among themselves over the prisoner exchange between the Taliban and Afghan government that the US promised the Taliban without consulting the government. Another indication that the US only does war....not peace.

Daughter, like daddy, opposes end to criminal US Afghan war

Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY), daughter of Vice, blasted the proposed full pull out agreement to end America's 19 year old Afghan war. She issued a letter signed by 21 other Republican congresspersons stating that any agreement "must not contain a commitment for a full US withdrawal" of troops from Afghanistan. Veterans antiwar group BringOurTroopsHome.US rightly called Cheney a "chicken hawk who never wore the uniform, and whose family profited from hundreds of millions in military contracts, literally making money off wars they sent other people to fight."
Sigh...apparently, the warmonger apple didn't fall far from the warmonger tree.

Afghan peace agreement is a fraud

Don't buy the malarkey the US is leaving Afghanistan in 14 months. The peace deal just signed didn't even include the quasi-legitimate US puppet Afghan government, just the US and the real Afghan rulers the Taliban. It calls for withdrawing just 4,400 of the 13,000 US soldiers defiling that hapless country for the past 19 years, sending over a hundred thousand to an early and needless death, including over 3,000 US and coalition troops. If the Taliban and our Afghan puppets comply with all US demands, we've promised to be completely out in 14 months.

Won’t happen. The US has too much invested in Afghanistan besides those 3,000 dead soldiers and over $1 trillion. There is fabulous mineral wealth under the ground. There are pipeline routes above those same grounds. There is Afghanistan’s geopolitical importance in the region. That’s three strikes for staying forever.

We’ve already said we will monitor Taliban compliance closely. If they launch any attacks against our puppet government, allow any US designated bad guys to reform there, or not cooperate with our puppet Afghan government to create a stable government, we reserve the right to halt the excruciatingly slow withdrawal and open fire again.

It took but 48 hours for the non-consulted Afghan government to balk, stating they weren’t releasing the 5,000 Taliban prisoners that were scheduled to kick off the agreement.

That’s why we call it perpetual war, now being fought by US soldiers who were babies, or possibly not even born when we launched it 19 years ago.

Reaching in pocket no excuse to kill the reacher

We should all be disappointed Cook County Judge Dennis Porter did not convict Amtrak police officer of murder in the shooting death of Chad Robertson at Union Station in 2017.
Robertson bolted from a pat down conducted by Amtrak Officer LaRoyce Tankson. When Robertson turned and reached into his pocket, Tankson fatally shot him. Porter accepted Tankson’s defense that he was reasonably in fear of his life due to Robertson’s movement. But there was no gun, just two bags of non-lethal cannabis Robertson was likely trying to jettison.
This is simply the latest in numerous police shootings of unarmed men either reaching into or simply ‘appearing’ to reach into a pocket for something other than a firearm. Being in reasonable fear of one’s life has become the go-to defense when a police person shoots an unarmed man. Not having a gun can still be a defense as when the victim is charging the officer with obvious intent to harm, even kill. That did not apply in the Robertson shooting.
It’s possible Porter acquitted due to Tankson being overcharged with first degree murder. That clearly didn’t apply as Tankson didn’t plan to kill Robertson with malice aforethought. He should have been charged with second degree murder which only requires he killed due to reckless disregard of the facts involved in the incident.
Once again police nationwide can relax knowing their go-to reaching defense remains in tack. That must end if we are truly going to make police accountable for reckless actions that result in great injury, even death.
