Biden’s stunning hypocrisy on imprisoned journalists

Biden’s stunning hypocrisy on imprisoned journalists

The Biden administration conducted a day’s long PR campaign trumpeting its negotiated release of NY Times journalist Evan Gershkovich along with 3 other Americans from Russian prisons.
Biden said he moved ‘Heaven and Earth’… check that, it was 8 convicted Russian criminals, to obtain the release of Gershkovich who had been imprisoned by Russia for 16 months on espionage charges the US claims were false.
But when it comes to imprisoning journalists the US doesn’t like, on charges indisputably false, Biden continued that despicable conduct of his 2 predecessors for 12 years.
That journalist, Julian Assange, committed the most grievous offence possible to the American political establishment, revealing US crimes in its perpetual warfare worldwide. In 2010 Assange did what journalists have been doing since Guttenberg invented the printing press….outing the crimes and misdemeanors of corrupt, waring leaders with purloined government secrets.
The fact Aussie Assange wasn’t an American made no dent on the lust to imprison by first Obama, then Trump, finally Biden. Off with his head, or at least life in prison.
It took 12 years, imprisoned first under asylum in Equator’s London embassy, then London’s Belmarsh Prison, to get Assange released upon pleading guilty to a single espionage charge. No US fanfare or PR push ahead of the US election for Assange’s release. Biden and his war cabinet tossed in the imprisonment towel after discrediting themselves as a friend of free journalism in their 14 year campaign to punish Assange for his good journalistic deeds back in 2010.
And Gershkovich? He and his journalistic colleagues at the NY Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune and others, no doubt learned well the hard US lesson. It’s not wise to mess with their Uncle Sam when it comes to revealing unauthorized US secrets. The US celebration would not be for their release, just their imprisonment.

Progressives denying Israeli/US genocide in Gaza say the darnedest things

Progressives denying Israeli/US genocide in Gaza say the darnedest things

Some fellow progressives take issue with me when I call out the Biden/Harris administration for enabling Israeli genocide in Gaza. Their comments astonish me.
“How dare you criticize Biden and Harris for something they have nothing to do with.”
“President Biden is not the Prime Minister of Israel so why are you holding him accountable?”
“You’re doing nothing but helping reelect Trump”
“Do you ever get tired of using the ‘genocide’ word?”
“If you think Biden is helping Israel, Trump will be much worse if he is reelected.”
“President Biden has been a great, compassionate president. Focus on that.”
“Hamas started the war so all death and destruction in Gaza is their fault.”
“Genocide in Gaza is what Hamas did on the October 7th attack. Everything Israel is doing is simply self defense.”
“There are massive civilian casualties in every war. Look at all the civilians America killed in the Dresden Germany firebombing during WWII. What’s happening in Gaza is just like that.”
None of these folks consider that America is enabling Israel commit genocide in Gaza. That is extremely dismaying to those of us in the peace community pushing back against our government’s complicity with that genocide. It does, however, help me understand how 79 years after it ended, some folks still deny the Holocaust.

US sanctions, China invests. Guess who’s winning the 21stcentury?

US sanctions, China invests. Guess who’s winning the 21stcentury?

Upon his inauguration in January 2021, President Biden trumpeted his determination to win the 21st century against China. Not militarily, but economically, politically and diplomatically.

But his proclamation got upended by a rookie presidential mistake for the 6 decade long political leader. Sensible advisors cautioned Biden to pivot away from ever increasing US sanctions by his predecessors going back to Eisenhower in 1959 against Cuba. Biden has done the opposite, adding over 6,000 new sanctions covering a third of the world’s 195 countries. Worse, his sanctions cover over half of countries deemed ‘low income’. This severely restricts delivery of critically needed medicine, medical equipment and infrastructure, contributing to thousands of needless deaths.

Much of the world outside of NATO and a few Chinaphobe Far East Allies are fed up with Biden’s self-destructive strategy for winning the 21st century. Many have joined or are applying to join the 2 major non-aligned economic blocks: BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa,) and Shanghai Cooperation Organization (9 members and 4 observer states.

Both organizations are committed to neutrality and end to US sanctions disrupting life sustaining world commerce. To that end they are moving toward de-dollarizing world trade. That spells huge financial ennui for Uncle Sam.

Compounding Biden’s disastrous sanctions expansion, China is doing the opposite…investigating in developing countries, not sanctioning them. Unlike the US, China understands that sanctions never work. Their devastating effects of disease, food insufficiency bringing death, change neither the regime nor the policies of country rulers the US irrationally hate. Quite the opposite. Murderous sanctions coalesce most of the populous around leaders however corrupt and dictatorial they might be.

If President Biden pens his memoir, he might consider the title: How I Lost The 21st Century’.

After 28,000 genocide bombs to Israel, Harris should channel Bryan not Boss Biden

After 28,000 genocide bombs to Israel, Harris should channel Bryan not Boss Biden

When it comes to US enabling the Israeli genocidal ethnic cleansing of Gaza, Kamala Harris is more than a loyal Vice President. She has established her bonafides with the Israel Lobby by remaining off stage and quiet on the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza Biden has enabled.

Now as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Harris finds herself required to weigh in on the most important moral issue, US involvement in genocide, that she’s likely to ever face.
While Harris says she is alarmed by the massive civilian casualties and promotes ceasefire, her allegiance is to continue giving Israel everything it needs to continue the genocide till all Palestinians in Gaza have been killed or removed.

Only Harris calls it ‘self-defense’.

We learn today that the Biden/Harris administration has given Israel over 28,000 bombs and to destroy every vestige of sustainable life for 2,300,000 Palestinians in Gaza since the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel that precipitated Netanyahu’s 300 day genocidal campaign.

That represents much of the ordinance that has killed over 40,000 Palestinians and leveled most of the homes, hospitals, schools, water and sewerage infrastructure. The relentless bombings have made delivery of food and water near impossible.

Biden’s bombs include:
· 14,100 two thousands pounders
· 8,200 five hundred pounders
· 3,000 two hundred fifty pounders
· 3,000 Hellfire missiles
· 36,000 30-mm cannon rounds
· 25 F-35s
· 3,000 Joint Direct Attack Munitions
· 1,800 M141 Bunker Defeat Munitions
· 14,000 tank shells.

That’s a lot of genocide weapons for 139 square miles.

If Vice President Harris wants to reclaim her moral compass now spinning wildly out of control, she needs to channel a principled presidential diplomat from 109 years ago.

On June 9, 1915, President Woodrow Wilson’s Secretary of State William
Jennings Bryan resigned. After the British liner Lusitania was sunk in May, Bryan sent Germany a conciliatory note requesting restraint and high level diplomacy to keep the European war from drawing in the US. Bryan was mindful Germany neither attacked nor threatened America far across its Atlantic mote.

Wilson was furious and penned a much stronger note that Bryan refused to sign out of conscience, resigning instead.

Kamala Harris cares more about becoming president than ending Israeli genocide in Gaza. Time for Harris to recalibrate her moral compass. When it comes to genocide in Gaza, Harris should be more like Bryan, not Biden.

Israel's war on Gaza

'Horrifying' Israeli strike on girls' school in Gaza kills at least 30. The Khadija Girls' School had a field hospital within the complex and was sheltering over 4,000 displaced Palestinians

Kamala can't talk about being outraged at the genocide in Gaza when she's giving Israel the bombs to inflict the genocide. It's akin to being outraged at Nazi gas chambers...then sending Nazi Germany the Zyklon B gas.'

If Kamala is serious about ending the genocide in Gaza, she should break with Joe and publicly demand not one more genocide bomb to Israel. She will gain votes, not lose votes by so doing. Cut off of Israel Lobby money should not affect her decision to do this. Au contraire, it will boost her chances.
