Freudian Slips?

 Freudian Slips?

On May 18, 2022, former President George W. Bush in speech said: “The decision of one man to launch a brutal and unjustified war in Iraq…I mean Ukraine.”
Wednesday, President Joe Biden, who as Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee greased the skids for Bush’s ‘brutal and unjustified war in Iraq’, said that Russian President Putin is “clearly losing the war in Iraq.” Biden one-upped W by making that boo-boo twice. On Tuesday he said: “If anybody told you — and my staff wasn’t so sure, either — that we’d be able to bring all of Europe together in the onslaught on Iraq and get NATO to be completely united, I think they would have told you it’s not likely.
Bush laughed off his Iraq gaffe, attributing to his being “75.” Biden didn’t attribute his Iraq reference to his age (80). But it’s more likely both made Freudian Slips, haunted by the knowledge they’re responsible for hundreds of thousands of Iraqi deaths as well as 4,400 US deaths in an illegal, immoral, criminal war.
At least Bush is out of the war business, relegated to a tragic and forgotten figure of a grotesque American military adventure. But Biden is still at it, destroying innocents with bombs and sanctions in many countries. He’s guaranteeing that Ukraine is being inexorably destroyed by providing them with billions in weapons to continue fighting instead of negotiations which could save them.
No, old age doesn’t cause those damning words ‘brutal, unjustified, onslaught, Iraq war’ to fall from their lips. It’s the guilt that will haunt them for the rest of their lives.

US, NATO, could use a little bit of that Swiss DNA

US, NATO, could use a little bit of that Swiss DNA

Bravo for the Swiss government for vetoing plan to send 96 German tanks to Ukraine to simply get blown apart by Russian artillery. Swiss arms maker Ruag AG sought a license to send the tanks to Germany for refurbishment before transfer to Ukraine in their quixotic continuation of a war slaughtering their military and destroying their country.
Tanking Swiss tanks for Ukraine follows their earlier refusal to allow Germany to release Swiss make anti-aircraft ordinance held in German stockpiles to Ukraine.
Switzerland’s NATO neighbors are not pleased. The French ambassador to Switzerland charged Swiss neutrality is “a problem for Europe”. But the real problem for Europe is, by following America’s lead pouring hundreds of billions in weaponry to further destroy Ukraine, theyre also edging the US/NATO closer to nuclear confrontation with Russia.
Swiss President Alain Berset had a perfect retort to his war loving neighbors all in for weaponry, and all out for negotiations: “Warfare is not part of the Swiss DNA.”
Sure wish the Swiss could share some of that Swiss DNA with President Biden and his compliant weapons poodles in Europe.

DeSantis, Pence, demean Juneteenth commemoration

 DeSantis, Pence, demean Juneteenth commemoration

Prez contenders Ron DeSantis and Mike Pence demeaned Juneteenth celebrations honoring end of slavery. They used its approach to call for restoring name of traitorous Southern general Braxton Bragg to the army base his name disgraced for 104 years till dumped last year.
DeSantis whipped up the racist vote so crucial to his Quixotic campaign to catch Trump, saying: "It's an iconic name and iconic base, and we're not gonna let political correctness run amok in North Carolina,"
Pence followed suit, chiming in: "We will end the political correctness in the hallways of the Pentagon, and North Carolina will once again be home to Fort Bragg,"
Pardon the pun, but Ron and Mike's race to the bottom, pandering to the worst elements of our fractured electorate...are nothing to Bragg about.

2 important Russo Ukraine war stories: 1 covered 24/7; 1 covered up

2 important Russo Ukraine war stories: 1 covered 24/7; 1 covered up

Mainstream news got the figurative memo from the US State Dept. and military Friday: Full media press coverage of the mini insurrection against Russian President Putin that could potentially have toppled him. But not one word on the apparently failing Ukrainian counteroffensive the US was counting on before even considering negotiations to end the 17 month war.
That coverage simply continues the 487 days of media compliance with US not so subtle demands that the war be reported as Ukraine largely defeating a Russia hopelessly unable to secure control of Donbas and keep NATO off its doorstep.
If the American people were informed on Ukraine’s near complete inability to repel the Russian invaders, they might push back against the squandering of over a hundred billion dollars in US treasure on a futile cause not affecting US national security in the least.
If they knew we’re sending cluster bombs, prohibited by most countries, that can kill long after the war ends, if ever, they might call for negotiations, not more weapons.
If they knew we’re sending long range missiles to strike deep in Russia, possibly triggering nuclear confrontation, they might protest this madness.
But most Americans don’t know any of this. Like the apparently failing Ukrainian offensive, only good news, justifying America’s ghoulish demand this war goes on endlessly, gets on mainstream news.
If the US had that insane approach to diplomacy and negotiations during the Cuban Missile Crisis, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. We’d have all been blown away 61 years ago.

The forgotten chapter in Baseball integration

Eldon Ham’s op ed ‘Chicago’s All-Star ‘game of the century’ in Tuesday’s Sun Times missed an oft overlooked history of the first black players in the Big Leagues.
He correctly gives credit for breaking the color barrier to Branch Ricky and Bill Veeck for playing Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby respectively in early ’47. But he omits Bill DeWitt, Hank Thompson and Willard Brown.
Bill DeWitt one-upped both Rickey and Veeck in '47 by signing two black players, Hank Thompson and Willard Brown to the Majors most Southern team, the lowly St. Louis Browns. He made history on July 20, 1947, by inserting both in the Brownies lineup. Brown even hit the first home run by an American League black player in the Bigs on August 13, ’47, ahead of Larry Doby.
Why has Thompson and Brown’s groundbreaking ’47 season largely been benched in MLB history. Neither fared well and didn’t make it back in ’48 (tho Thompson became a star for the NY Giants starting in ’49). Thompson batted just .256 and Brown a lowly ‘128. Racism among the ironically named Browns didn’t help. When Brown returned to the dugout after his historic homer on August 13, he discovered his bat had been broken.
Their erasure from one of the most important chapters in the civil rights struggle is a shame…didn’t fit the storybook narrative of Rickey, Veeck, Robinson and Doby. The woeful Browns’ owner and their 2 black groundbreakers deserve better.
