President Biden’s decision to send cluster bombs to Ukraine to shore up their failing counteroffensive is despicable. The US condemned Russia for using cluster bombs there but has no qualms about leaving. thousands of its own unexploded bomblets to surprise little tykes who find them during and long after the war

The US and 7 other NATO countries refuse to join 123 countries that adhere to the 2008 Convention On Cluster Munitions which prohibits the use, production, stockpiling and transfer of cluster munitions and requires states to ensure they claim no further victims.

Congress prohibits their use but Cluster Bomb Joe has a murderous loophole. He can declare that any national security emergency allows him to transfer cluster bombs from US stockpiles. The Russo Ukraine war, over 5,000 miles from the Homeland, is nowhere close to US security interests…unless you count backing the losing side in our proxy war against Russia an existential threat. We have no need to make and stockpile such deplorable weapons in the first place.

President Biden is a half century long proponent of perpetual war to maintain US unipolar dominance over the world. He’s in denial our days as world dominator are approaching Sayonara. Dipping into the cluster bomb bucket to maim Ukrainian kids long after Ukraine is destroyed trying to hang on to Crimea and Donbas, and join NATO to put nukes on Russia’s border, is a sad gasp of a desperate president.

Joe Biden won the 2020 election, in part, from his superb family values persona compared to the polar opposite in the near degenerate persona of Donald J. Trump. While Trump bragged about grabbing attractive strangers’ lady parts, Biden bragged about grabbing his 6 grandkids for a grandfatherly hug whenever possible.

But Joe stopped short when it came time to even recognize, much less hug, grandchild number 7, Navy Joan Roberts, a 4 year old girl son Hunter fathered with Lunden Roberts in 2018. Cocaine addled at the time, Hunter claims amnesia about little Navy Joan and denied paternity.

The unwanted grandkid remained hidden from the public during the 2020 election to protect the Biden image.

But Lunden sued Hunter for paternity which was verified by DNA testing. A paternity trial scheduled for July was cancelled due to a financial settlement from the Biden family.

All we need now is a human settlement from President Joe to acknowledge lucky grandkid No. 7.

Welcoming Navy Joan into the Biden clan won’t make an iota of difference in the ’24 election. Come on Joe…say it’s so.

My beloved Chicago White Sox won’t see me at Sox Park July 9. The Pale Hose are hosting a ‘He Gets Us’ Day against the St. Louis Cards. Billed as ‘Faith and Family: He Gets Us’, the He, of course is Jesus. The He Gets Us movement, formed last year by The Servant Christian Foundation, has spent a hundred million in advertising at sporting and other events to “Reintroduce people to the Jesus of the Bible.”

The campaign is billed as apolitical. But its founders, rich conservatives Evangelicals such as David Green, Hobby Lobby founder, are anything but. I viewed a He Gets Us Super Bowl ad. It was a slick mix of faux social inclusivity and conservative sound bites. One of the latter claimed that Jesus was “canceled” for being “an influencer”. I get it…lefty atheists killed him.

Don’t know how much dough the Sox got to host He Gets Us July 9, but with the campaign planning to spend a cool billion over the next 3 years, it’s likely not peanuts.

I have no problem with my White Sox co-mingling religion with baseball. Not being a governmental entity, they’re free to promote religion to put paying customers in their pews…I mean seats. But it sure would be nice for Southside to reserve a special day for us non-theists. We’re still one of the fastest growing but still marginalized segments of America’s pluralistic society.

If they did, our attendance would offer no prayers for a Sox victory. With their un-heavenly roster, even the Big Guy would be incapable of granting them that miracle.

 Schuchhardtnomics not fancy, merely fanciful

My fellow Glen Ellynite Dan Schuchardt surely got the memo from the RNC to trivialize Bident’s economic record in 4 words: “Gas and inflation high,” (Trib letters July 4). Schuchardt, apparently, longs for a return to Trumponomics.

He missed that job creation under Biden averages over 400,000 jobs per month; below a 100,000 under Trump.

Unemployment? Under Biden it’s lower that Trump could have fantasized about.

How did Mr. Schuchardt miss Trump’s debt debacle? Trump promised to wipe out our $19 trillion debt with tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations, and increased tariffs. That simply goosed it by $7.8 trillion in 4 years. Was Schuchardt disappointed Trump was denied a second term, attempted coup notwithstanding, to add another $7.8 trillion?

Mr. Schuchardt on Biden’s economy is not alone. Every one of my Republican friends and colleagues repeats the same valueless soundbite: “Gas and inflation high.”

If they were truly honest, the four words would be: “Time for another taxcut.”
