DON'T ASK DON'T TELL - ABOUT WHAT?

In the dark, pre-dawn of February 12, a U.S. Special Ops Team swooped down on a village near Gardez, Afghanistan, and shot dead an Afghan police intelligence officer, his brother and three pregnant women, two of whom were mothers of sixteen children. Realizing their mistake, our intrepid heroes dug the bullets out of the womens' bodies, bound and gagged them, and filed a report that the dead men were Taliban militants who had murdered the women in "honor killings" before Uncle Sam's finest showed up.

When their cover-up unraveled, as it rarely does, U.S. commanders made amends by serving up an in-person apology topped off with the sacrifice of a sheep and $30,000 in compensation.

This is the straight Army's version of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". While the gay Army's version is slowly and mercifully coming to an end, the one that really matters in terms of ending the needless slaughter of innocents in the Middle East is, alas, bullet proof.
