The horrific murder of 2 Jewish embassy workers in DC by a Chicago man received massive coverage in Chicago’s two dailies.

The Sun Times had a stark front page on the killing followed by 7 full pages of coverage. The Trib had a lengthy cover story spread over two pages and long editorial condemning it.

Understandable.

What is not understandable is that both papers almost completely ignore the ongoing US enabled genocide of 2,300,000 Palestinians in Gaza for all its 600 days.

When both do publish largely buried stories on the genocide, it’s referred to simply as a war on Hamas. The dozens, if not hundreds of Palestinians obliterated daily by US bombs dropped from US planes is rarely mentioned.

 There is no editorial pushback against US making the genocide possible with over $20 billion supplying over 50,000 tons of weaponry. No US weaponry…no genocidal ethnic cleansing campaign by Israel possible.

 Newspapers have critical public responsibility to inform readers of grotesque government policies that kill untold thousands and inflict starvation and denial of medical care upon millions of defenseless people being cleared from their homeland.

More importantly their public mission is to demand their government stop forthwith.

On both critical journalistic missions the Chicago Sun Times and Chicago Tribune are AWOL.

Not satisfied with destroying Ukraine to weaken Russia, the US House passed a deranged bill to set the stage for a Ukraine redo, this time in tiny former Soviet republic Georgia.

 

It overwhelmingly passed the Mobilizing and Enhancing Georgia’s Options for Building Accountability, Resilience, and Independence Act (MEGOBARI Act) by a vote of 349 to 42.

 

MEGOBARI may be the stupidest acronym ever. But its intent is even stupider.

 

The bill is simply a Ukraine style regime change ploy to kick Russia out of its neighbor Georgia’s polity so Georgia can join NATO and the EU.

 

MEGOBARI doesn’t mince niceties” “[T}he consolidation of democracy in Georgia is critical for regional stability and United States national interests… (so it is) the policy of the United States to support the constitutionally stated aspirations of Georgia to become a member of the European Union and NATO,” to “continue supporting the capacity of the Government of Georgia to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity… (and) to combat Russian aggression, including through sanctions on trade with Russia and the implementation and enforcement of worldwide sanctions on Russia.”

 

The US regime change party, including all but 34 Republican and 8 Democrats, can’t tolerate the duly elected Russian aligned Georgian Dream Party ruling Georgia. Claiming this tiny spec of a country with just 3.8 million souls and a miniscule $35 billion GEP is essential to US national security interests is preposterous.

 

Georgia has suffered thru senseless US intervention for 22 years beginning with the 2003 CIA aided Rose Revolution that eventually installed pro US puppet Mikheil Saakashvili as president, ousting pro Russian Eduard Shevardnadze. Hear echoes of Ukraine there?

 

Five years later, goaded by the US, Saakashvili tried to reclaim 2 breakaway Georgian provinces aligned with Russia. Big mistake. His attack provoked a Russian pushback that crushed the Georgian intervention. At the start, premier US war lover Sen. John McCain shouted “Today we are all Georgians.” When Georgia caved so did McCain, likely channeling SNL’s Roseanne Roseannadanna ‘Oh, never mind.’

 

But here we are 17 years on and US war lovers are at it again in the ‘Weaken Russia’ game with patsy Georgia. MEGOBARI even includes the ominous directive that allows Congress “…in consultation with the Secretary of Defense… to expand military co-operation with Georgia, including by providing further security and defense equipment ideally suited for territorial defense against Russian aggression and related training, maintenance, and operations support elements.”

 

Might be time for all 349 clueless congresspersons supporting MEGOBARI to be flown to Ukraine’s eastern war front to see just how glorious their ‘Weaken Russia’ campaign is going with our hapless Ukrainian proxies.

Joe Biden wasn’t the first debilitated president to ignore decency and common sense by withdrawing from another term.

 

In March, 1944, FDR was diagnosed with severe heart disease. He was essentially drinking and smoking himself to death while trying to run the country and win WWII. His inner circle knew it but kept mum. Daughter Anna became his caretaker, making him take long absences from presidential duties. She hovered over him at the Yalta Conference where he appeared on death’s doorstep in pictures later released.

 

But FDR was too stubborn to step aside and his family, friends, advisors, doctors all went along. His personal doc Howard Bruenn, who diagnosed his impending death, painted a rosy picture of the dying FDR to press and public. He called FDR’s debilitating heart episodes ‘common colds.’

 

Roosevelt persevered to a fourth term nomination and victory as a shell of his once vigorous self. So debilitated he even allowed his neocon advisors of the era such as James Byrnes and James Forestall to dump his peace loving VP Henry Wallace in favor of the clueless and pliant Harry Truman as running mate.

 

No surprise FDR died 51 days in, elevating Hapless Harry to be rolled by his Russophobe advisors who demanded he get tough with Stalin whom FDR was looking to partner with in creating a war free world. Hapless Harry bought into their delusions and set off the Cold War against the USSR (now Russia) still threatening world peace and our survival today

 

Eighty years on a debilitated Joe Biden ignored all decency and common sense to run again when his incipient dementia made him self-destruct on a prime time debate stage.

 

That unconscionable decision, like FDR’s in ’44, was enabled by his family, advisors, doctors and the Democratic Party careerists who dared not tell the truth to Biden or the American people. The tragic truth is Biden only withdrew when forced to by his enablers who could no longer hide his dementia and unfitness to serve again.

 

That was a major, if not the primary reason, Democrats failed spectacularly November 5, saddling America with another mentally disintegrating president taking a literal chainsaw to every decent function of government.

 

Might be time for a new system to screen candidates for president. Anyone announcing his candidacy should submit to a thorough physical and mental exam by independent medical personnel not connected with the candidate. The covering up of disqualifying physical and or mental conditions must end.

 

Two times in 80 years is two times too many. If mentally disintegrating Trump follows thru with his deranged plan to run again in ’28, that would make a trifecta of electoral insanity.
